29th June 2009 :
Hello to you all. I have today
received an update from Mr Adam Pickerill concerning the Business Park fire.
It may be of interest for you to read it:
Subject: Building Fire - Unit 6, Old Dalby Business Park, Melton Mowbray
Dear John,
Further to my email of 15th May, and our more recent telephone conversation,
I attach further Air Test Certificates up to 29th May 2009, as issued by our
specialist consultant, Monitor Environmental Limited. You will note that on
the more recent test certificates, fiber counts are at a nil level; as such
we have since ceased reassurance air monitoring for the next few weeks,
whist we obtain contractors tenders to demolish and clear the site.
In terms of general progress;
The fire investigators have now completed their site investigations.
The former tenants have cleared redundant materials from around the external
perimeter of the building and these areas have been cleaned.
Remaining pockets of fire have been extinguished (with the co-operation to
the fire brigade).
The remaining roof structure has been dropped back into the building foot
print to prevent further wind blown contamination.
The wider estate has been decontaminated by means of visual inspection and
hand picking of debris (this includes parts of the neighboring Crown Estate
and any other properties where concerns have been reported to us directly).
Our insurers have now accepted liability for the claim and as such we are
now in the process of obtaining competitive tenders for the complete
demolitions of the remaining structure. Tenders are expected today, and we
would hope to be on site commencing demolition within 2 - 3 weeks. During
this phase we will proceed with further re-assurance air monitoring as per
the recommendation in Monitor's letter dated 23rd June (see attached).
I trust that your remain satisfied with our
actions to date, and our plans going forward, however please contact me with
you wish to discuss any matters.
Kind regards
Adam
ADAM PICKERILL

Most of you will be aware by now of the discovery of what appears to be a
viable device in London during the early hours of this morning (Friday June
29).
There is nothing to suggest that this morning's discovery is in any way
connected to Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland. However it is inevitable
that this incident will generate considerable public concern across the
country.
Our priority at this stage is to maintain community confidence and safety.
To this end there will be increased police activity at a number of
high-profile locations such as shopping centres and the city centre today
and over the weekend.
It goes without saying that everyone should remain extra vigilant and report
any suspicions immediately.
